Introducing Africa Day 2018 Champion: Ola Majekodunmi

26th April 2018

We are delighted to introduce one of our Africa Day 2018 Champions. Meet Ola Majekodunmi!

Ola is 21 years old. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria and moved to Ireland with her parents when she was just 7 months old. She has lived in Dublin her whole life.

Ola found a passion for the Irish language at an early age as she went to all-Irish schools. She first became a radio presenter with Raidió na Life almost 4 years ago, presenting the show ‘Seinnliosta an tSathairn’. Ola often features as a guest speaker on other radio stations such as RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, RTÉ 2FM, RTÉ 2XM etc. She is also now a contributor for the Motherfoclóir podcast, which explores different topics regarding the Irish language in a fun, witty way.

More recently Ola was nominated for the SMEDIAS for the category ‘Iriseoireacht trí Ghaeilge’ and also for the SAAI awards for the category ‘feachtas bliain na Gaeilge’.

She is currently an undergraduate student at IADT in her final year studying English, Media and Cultural studies and submitted her thesis based on the politics of black women’s hair, and it inspired her to write poetry.

Ola is musical and loves to dance, sing and act. She used to play piano. When she was younger, Ola attended the Billie Barry stage school, and she went on to do courses at the Irish Film Academy and Gaiety School of Acting. Ola will MC the Dance Zone area at Africa Day 2018.
