Africa Day 2019 Celebrations Organised by Limerick City & County Council

Limerick City and County Council will present a number of events in celebration of Africa Day 2019. The events will kick-off on Monday, 20th May at 11.30am in the Limerick City and County Council Headquarters, City Hall, Merchants Quay where the week long programme of events will be launched by the Mayor of Limerick City and County.

On Tuesday, 21st May members of the African community will visit CBS Secondary School on Sexton Street to deliver a presentation to students on African culture and history, followed by an interactive drumming session.

‘Tastes and sounds of Africa’ will take place at Narrative 4, 58 O’Connell Street from 4pm on Thursday, 23rd May where guests will be invited to sample a variety of foods and coffees from African countries as well as have the opportunity to engage in music and song from African countries.

Football teams from across Limerick and further afield will gather at Markets Field at 1pm on Saturday, 25th May to contest the Limerick Intercultural Soccer Tournament. Participants will include an African community teams from Limerick and Dublin as well as teams from An Garda Síochána and Limerick City and County Council.

The programme of events will close with a ‘Family Fun Day’ at the Limerick Milk Market on Sunday, 26th May, an event that has become a regular part of Africa Day activities over the past number of years in Limerick and will encompass African food, dance, comedy, music and lots of fun. The event kicks off at 1pm.
