Galway City Council will be holding a mayoral reception to launch the programme of Africa Day Galway 2014 events. The launch will be hosted by Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Pádraig Conneelly and will take place on Monday, 19th May at 11a.m. in Galway’s Townhall Theatre.
The launch event will include the display of a heart-warming community video depicting the meeting of two worlds, a group of Irish artists with intellectual disabilities, and an intercultural group from Ballybane with participants from five African countries.
Additionally, the Galway African Film Festival will be introducing themes and key films which will be shown as part of the 7th Annual African Film Festival at the Galway One World Centre, which takes place from 23rd – 25th May and will screen a number of features, shorts, documentaries and children’s films.
Other celebratory events to mark Africa Day 2014 will include an event at Doughiska which will be run by the ARD Family Resource Centre and will showcase art, dance, music, poetry and food from a range of African countries.
