For anyone considering volunteering for Africa Day 2018, we could go on all day about the reasons to take part. However, don’t take it from us – take it from Africa Day volunteers who have already participated in this unforgettable celebration!
Africa Day 2017 volunteer Marilyn, describes her experience: “As a volunteer I was made very much to feel a part of this wonderful day. The organisation that went on behind the scenes in the lead up to the day was fantastic.”
Volunteers for Africa Day are very involved, liaising with performers and providing assistance to event partners. It is an opportunity to provide a helping hand in an action-packed day where your assistance is much appreciated.
“Meeting the stall holders/artists from all different backgrounds and cultures within different countries within Africa was amazing”, says Marilyn. “The vast array of activities and events on offer for the visitors and participants alike was eye opening.”
Another Africa Day 2017 volunteer, Heather worked at the information point in the music field. “Being a family day, the information point was constantly attracting children and I had 10 small ‘helpers’ constantly wanting to hand out leaflets and brochures to anyone who passed” says Heather. “It was hilarious and we had so much fun.”
“I had plenty of time to get my own face painted and eat ice cream. The refreshments for staff were free and plentiful.” Apart from taking part in a unique celebration of African life and culture, all volunteers will be provided with lunch and refreshments, a certificate of participation and appreciation and an Africa Day t-shirt to wear on the day and to keep as a souvenir. Heather says; “I still wear my Africa Day t shirt with pride”, and we hope you will too!
