Africa Day Limerick 2014 Launched Today

Africa Day Limerick’s programme of events to celebrate the continent’s unity has been launched in Limerick City today.

Limerick will enjoy the sights and sounds of its African communities with a fun filled weekend of colourful events to celebrate Africa Day in May.

  • The fifth annual Limerick Sportsfest/Sports Day will take place at Crescent College in Dooradoyle on Saturday, 17th May.
  • There will be African Storytelling for primary school groups and African Drumming at Limerick City Library on Wednesday 21st May.
  • A ‘Sounds of Africa’ Concert will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday 22nd May.
  • A symposium on the theme of “Partners for Growth” at the Hunt Museum on Friday 23rd May.
  • A signature concert featuring a fusion of African and Irish music and culture on Saturday, 24th May at City Hall.
  • A creative writing competition for secondary schools and an art competition for primary schools.
