In 2015, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These 17 goals were put in place to improve the lives of people everywhere. The United Nations are mobilising efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Agenda by 2030. These are the goals that are saving this earth and our future generations.
Africa Day is a sustainable event. We are doing our bit to achieve a few of these goals at our Africa Day 2018 celebrations by asking all attendees to follow a few simple steps.
Leave your car at home.
In order to achieve Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, as well as contributing to Goal 13 – Climate action, we must reduce our carbon footprint. You can take our FREE Dublin Bus shuttle bus from Parkgate Street to Africa Day. Trams, trains, bikes, scooters, or just good old fashioned walking, will help reduce the amount of emissions that are released into the atmosphere. Little by little we will make Dublin a greener city! Click here to view all transport options to Africa Day 2018.
Be mindful of your waste.
Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production can be achieved at Africa Day in a few simple steps to prevent waste:
Enjoy clean, fresh water.
At Africa Day 2018, find fresh water stations located around the event site. Re-fill your water bottles at these stations, stay hydrated help us achieve Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation for all.
To ensure Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being is met, all we have to do is get moving to the beat of the African drums, dance with friends and family or take part in sports and activities. Just get out there and have fun and keep your heart healthy!
As you can probably tell, it doesn’t take huge gestures to help save the earth, it’s the little things that make the difference. If everyone who attends Africa Day 2018 takes these steps to achieve the Goals, we will be well on our way to a healthier, happier planet!
